History of the religious body
Nihon Seiyaku Kirisuto
Kyoudan(NSKK) was established in 1963. Before that, seven missionaries reached Yokohama port on October
31st 1949. They were Swedish missionaries who were sent by Sweden Mission
Covenant Church(SMF) to China.
SMF kept preaching the Gospel in China for almost 60 years. But
after the World War two, Chinese Communist government refused them. So they were
looking for a new place to preach the Gospel in Asia.
And they chose Japan as the
new target, for at the time General MacArthur of occupation Allied Forces in Japan requested Western countries to send
missionaries to Japan.

Seven SMF missionaries came to Japan
from China
(1949)
They surveyed Japan to find
an appropriate place to go. Then other mission groups recommended Okayama strongly. Okayama was the place where
famous christians like Magozaburo Oohara and Juuji Ishii worked in those days.
And there were many Congregational churches that were similar to SMF churches.
So they bought the house of Genjuurou Hayashi in Kurashiki
as a base, and they started the activities of Gospel preaching in Okayama. At the
beginning, they did not develop new churches, but helped other Japanese
churches. But sometime they were led to make their own churches. And they
raised Japanese pastors. Finally NSKK was established.
Since then,
NSKK has been working mainly in Okayama
area. At this time there are 18 churches; Okayama, Kurashiki, Kojima, Tamano,
Yakage, Mizushima, Bihoku, Kibi, Ichinomiya, Sanyou, Hiroe, Sasaoki, Tsuyama,
Kobe(Hyogo), Hukuyama(Hiroshima), Urayasu(Chiba), Nanki and Covenant Chapel.

The number of the church members is
about 20. The feature of our church is familiarity and lively praise. A big
yellow cross is on the top of the roof. If you drive on Route 2 near Sasaoki at
night, you can see in the south the cross shining in the darkness.
